About Ben Hogan Memorabilia & Collectibles
Considered as one of the greatest golfers of all time, William Ben Hogan was born on August 13, 1912 in Stephenville, Texas. He attended Central High School but dropped out at the last semester of his senior year to play professional golf. According to reviews, his best season was in 1953 when he bagged five tournaments win out of six tournaments he participated in and played for three major championships. He emerged victorious in the British Open held at Carnoustie but was not able to play in the 1953 PGA Championship because of time overlapping. He was able to win in the three major championships which is called the “Hogan Slam”. Industry experts say he was a fundamental factor for the golf swing theory and became famous for this. He won in the U.S. Championship Open where he defeated Lloyd Magnum and George Fazio. Among his achievements are being the PGA Tour leading money winner in 1940, 1941, 1942, 1946 and 1948 and the PGA Player of the Year in 1948, 1950, 1951 and 1953. He also bagged the Vardon Trophy in 1940, 1941 and 1948 and was awarded as the Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year in 1953. Hogan was inducted to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.
Golf Magazine named Hogan as the fourth greatest player of all time in 2009, where Jack Nicklaus was named as the first and Tiger Woods as the second.
