Byrum William “Barney” Cable played basketball at the Rochester High School and scored fifty eight points in a game versus Mars High School. He spent his collegiate years at the Bradley University. With a height of six feet seven inches tall, he was selected in the NBA Draft as the eleventh picked at the second round by the Detroit Pistons on the 22nd of April 1958. He was then sold by the Pistons to the
Syracuse Nationals on the 10th of November 1959. From the Syracuse Nationals, he was selected in the expansion team draft of the National Basketball Association by the
Chicago Packers. A few months after, he was traded by the Packers along with
Archie Dees in exchange for St. Louis Hawks’ Woody Sauldsberry and Si Green. The last transaction of Barney Cable was on the 30th of January 1963 where he was traded for Woody Sauldsberry to the St. Louis Hawks.

Cable also dished out 381 assists (1.1 apg), made steals (0.0 spg), and blocked shots (0.0 bpg) during his career. Born in on , Cable stands 6-7 and weighs 175 lbs. He attended high school at Rochester in Rochester, Pennsylvania and college at Bradley University.
