Babe Young (full name: Norman Robert Young; no nicknames) played first baseman and centerfielder from 1936 until 1948 for the New York Giants, Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals. He played for the Giants from 1936 - 1947, Reds from 1947 - 1948 and Cardinals in 1948. Over 8 seasons, he played 728 games, hit 79 home runs, drove in 320 runs, and stole 9 bases. Born on July 1, 1915 in Astoria, NY, Young stood 6' 2" and weighed 185 lb. He attended George Washington (New York, NY) high school. His debut was on September 26, 1936 and he played his final game on October 2, 1948. Common misspellings of his name include Norman Babe Robert Young.
