Babe Phelps (full name: Ernest Gordon Phelps; Blimp) played catcher from 1931 until 1942 for the Washington Senators, Chicago Cubs, Brooklyn Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates. He played for the Senators in 1931, Cubs from 1933 - 1934, Dodgers from 1935 - 1941 and Pirates in 1942. Over 11 seasons, he played 726 games, hit 54 home runs, drove in 239 runs, and stole 9 bases. Born on April 16, 1908 in Odenton, MD (All Transactions), Phelps stood 6' 2" and weighed 225 lb. He attended high school. His debut was on September 17, 1931 and he played his final game on September 27, 1942. Common misspellings of his name include Ernest Babe Blimp Gordon Phelps.
