About Armon Gilliam Memorabilia & Collectibles
Also known as “The Hammer”, Armon Gilliam is a retired professional basketball player. He played for 13 seasons in the National Basketball Association and also played for a short while in the American Basketball Association. He started playing basketball while attending Independence Junior College. He enrolled in the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and led the team to the NCAA every single year during his stay.
Gilliam was selected to be part of the 1986 USA Basketball Team that went on to win the World Championships, routing Russia. The USA Basketball Team was coached by Luke Olson. In 1987, Gilliam entered the NBA Draft and was selected by the Phoenix Suns during the first round of the draft. He was the second overall pick.
After his first season in the NBA, Gilliam was named into the All-Rookie Team. He signed with the Hornets in 1989 and posted 20 ppg while playing for the team. Gilliam also played for the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Nets for three seasons each and was making an average of 12-18 ppg and 6-9 rpg.
Gilliam first retired in 2000 but decided to play for the Pittsburgh Xplosion in the ABA in 2005. He was named into the All-Star team and was made All-Star Game MVP.
