Distinguished as the only football player in the history of the NFL to win two Heismann Trophies during his entire career, Archie Griffin is a retired running back. He became active from 1976 to 1982 and was able to play for the Cincinnati Bengals for a huge chunk of his career and with the Jacksonville Bulls for one season prior to retiring.
Griffin went to Eastmoor High School in Columbus, Ohio and was able to lead his team to victory during the Columbus City League Championship. His high school’s football field is now called the “Archie Griffin Field”. In 1972, Griffin went to Ohio State University where he played football. He was able to participate in as a starter in four Rose Bowls and the only one aside from Brian Cushing to achieve the feat.
He was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals during the 1976 NFL Draft and was the 24th overall pick for the entire draft. He won the Heismann Trophy in1974 and then again in 1975. Griffin was part of the Bengals team that competed during the Super Bowl XVI. In 1985, he signed for one season with the Jacksonville Bulls of the US Football League before retiring. In 1986, Griffin was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
