Anthony Wright is a former American pro basketball athlete who played as quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals and the New York Giants of the National Football League. Wright hailed from Vanceboro, North Carolina and took his college education in the South Carolina University where he also played college football.
Wright’s pro football career began after he was signed as undrafted free agent of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1999, but was later acquired by the Dallas Cowboys a year after. Wright had his major break in his pro football career in 2001, where he became the starter as quarterback when his co-teammate, Quincy Carter, was injured. However, several weeks later Wright had a knee injury and was then replaced by replaced by Clint Stoerner.
Cowboys’ head coach, Dave Campo, released Wright at the end of the 2002 offseason after the acquisition of Chad Hutchinson, after which Wright was then acquired by the Baltimore Ravens where he took over for Kyle Boller as quarterback in November of the 2003 season when Boller was injured. Wright left the Ravens at the end of the 2005 season and joined other teams in the league, until he decided to retire during the 2009 season after no team wanted to sign him.
