A Swedish professional golfer, Annika Sorenstam is among the most successful female golfers in the history of the game. She was born on October 9, 1970 in Bro, Sweden in the Uplands-Bro Municipality.

 

She was 12 years of age when she played golf. Sorenstam then became an amateur and was able to win the St. Rule Trophy. She was also a runner-up during the Swedish national mother-daughter golf tournament. Sorenstam became a member of the Swedish National Team from 1987 to 1992 and had played at the Espirito Santo Trophy World Amateur Golf Team Championships in 1990 and 1992. It was in 1992 when she became a World Amateur champion. When she became a professional, Sorenstam was invited to play in three challenging LPGA tournaments. She had finished second four times on the LET tour and was hailed as the Ladies European Tour Rookie of the Year in1993. Sorenstam had powerfully won the Holden Australian Open Championship on the ALPG Tour and was hailed as the LPGA Rookie of the Year.

 

It was in 1995 when she incredibly won her first LPGA Tour title during the U.S. Women’s Open and had become the first non-American Vare Trophy winner. Sorenstam was the second player to be hailed as the Rolex Player of the Year and Vare Trophy winner after hailed as the Rolex Player of the Year.
