Andy Van Hekken was born on July 31, 1979 in Holland, Michigan. He is an American player in the Houston Astros organization. He was first drafted by the team, Seattle Mariners in the 1998 Major League Baseball Draft. In the same year, he was traded with Jerry Amador to the Detroit Tigers for Brian Hunter. He made his MLB debut in the year 2002 and his first major appearance was when he threw a game shootout for the win against the Cleveland Indians. He became a free agent after the 2004 season and that year, he signed a contract with the Atlanta Braves on December 26, 2004. His contract with them ended on May 13, 2005 and he was signed by the Cincinnati Reds three days later.
On October 15, 2005, he once again became a free agent until he signed a contract with the Florida Marlins. He also played with the Kansas City Royals for one season, became a free agent once more, then he joined the Astros’ minor league team, Corpus Christ Hooks. He was promoted to the Triple A team which is called the Round Rock Express and in 2010, he pitched exclusively for the Round Rocks only.
