The former World Number in tennis Andrew Stephen “Andy” Roddick was born on the 30th of August 1982. He is the top-ranking American tennis player and the sole American to be included in the top 10 of ATP. As of the 5th of July 2010, he is World Number 9 in the ATP rankings. When he defeated Juan Carlos Ferrero during the finals of the 2003 US Open, Roddick became the champion in the Grand Sam singles. He has also made to four more Grand Slam finals, one in US Open and three for Wimbledon, always beaten by Roger Federer every time. Federer and Roddick are the only two players to be consecutively ranked in the top 10 of ATP at the end of the years 2002 to 2009.
Known for his exceptionally powerful serves, Roddick is the holder of the record for the fastest serve in professional tennis which is 155 mph. Also, he is the last American player in the men’s category to win in a singles event in Grand Slam which was during the 2003 US Open.
As remarkable as Jeff Gordon, Roddick was part of the United States Davis Cup Team and aided it in winning the 2007 Davis Cup, US’s first win since the year 1995.
