 Andres Galarraga is a retired professional baseball player. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, he appeared in the Venezuelan Winter League, the minor leagues and then finally in the Major League Baseball in 1985 to 2004.  

 

Galarraga played as a catcher and third baseman for the Leones del Caracas. It was his team manager who recommended Galarraga to the Expos. He signed with the Montreal Expos in 1979. Before he would be able to He played in the Expos organization first. After he was named the Double-A Southern League MVP, he was called up to Expos in 1985. 

His rookie year with the Expos wasn’t stunning but he was quickly noted as a reliable defensive player.  Galarraga posted a batting average of .302 with 99 runs, 92 RBI and 29 homeruns in the 1988. He was named into his first All-Star game that year. 

 

In 1989, he was able to make his first grand slam, first steal and received his first Gold Glove award. He won his second Gold Glove in 1990. Galarraga also won the 1993 and 2000 NL Comeback Player of the Year, and the 1998 and 1996 Gold Glove Award. Aside from 1988, he made it to the All-Star in 1993, 1997, 1998 and 2000.

Andres Galarraga (full name: Andres Jose Galarraga; Big Cat) played first baseman from 1985 until 2004 for the Montreal Expos, St. Louis Cardinals, Colorado Rockies, Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers, San Francisco Giants and Anaheim Angels. He played for the Expos from 1985 - 2002, Cardinals in 1992, Rockies from 1993 - 1997, Braves from 1998 - 2000, Rangers in 2001, Giants from 2001 - 2003 and Angels in 2004. Over 19 seasons, he played 2257 games, hit 399 home runs, drove in 1195 runs, and stole 128 bases. Born on June 18, 1961 in Caracas, Distrito Federal, Venezuela, Galarraga stands 6' 3" and weighs 235 lb. He attended Enrique Felmi (Enrique Felmi, VE) high school. His debut was on August 23, 1985 and he played his final game on October 3, 2004. Over his career, Galarraga made $55,779,167.
