Anders Hedberg was born on February 25, 1961 in Sweden. He is a retired National Hockey League player who was a Swedish Junior Player of the year awardee in 1969 and in 1970. A graduate of the Stockholm School of Physical Education, he represented hockey teams in Sweden before he joined the World Hockey Association team the Winnipeg Jets. While with the Jets, he won the 1976 and 1978 Avco World Trophy. According to reviews, he made sensational records with the team making 100 points and appearing in 65 gamesHe entered the National Hockey League in 1978 when he signed with the New York Rangers together with Nilsson.
After his stint as a professional player, he became an assistant to Craig Patrick, general manager of the New York Rangers and as a scout for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1991 to 1997. He became the Leaf’s assistant general manager from 1997 to 1999 and was also the general manager of the national ice hockey team in Sweden. He was the Director of the Player Personnel of the Ottawa Senators and went back in 2007 as the Head Professional European Scout of the New York Rangers.
Hedberg is a 1985 NHL All-Star Game selection and is a member of the IIHF Hall of Fame in 1997. He is also an honoured member of the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame.
