Rodriguez was first drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 1993 immediately out of high school by Roger Jongewaard. Before making his major league debut, he played for the Mariners’ Triple-A team, the Calgary Cannons. On July 8, 1994, he became the youngest player at 18 years old to play in the major leagues in 10 years. He remained with the Mariners until 2000 when he became a free agent.

The Texas Rangers finally picked up Rodriguez, making the biggest offer in sports history at that time in the amount of $252 million over a period of 10 years. While with the Rangers, Rodriguez had record-breaking seasons in 2001 and 2002, the following year in 2003, he was awarded the American League Most Valuable Player. In his later years, sources say he mentioned that he regretted his decision to play for a team to make more money, rather than for a team he wanted to play for. Since 2004, Rodriguez has been playing for the Yankees, and continues to contribute team effort with teammate Derek Jeter.
