Alex Ramirez is a professional baseball player. He was born in Caracas; Distrito Federal, Venezuela. Ramirez was a former outfielder in the Major League Baseball. He is currently lined up for the Yomiuri Giants of Nippon Professional Baseball, which is the highest level of baseball in Japan.
Ramirez began his professional career in the Major League Baseball on July 1, 1991 when he signed a contract with the Cleveland Indians as an amateur free agent. Ramirez was listed at 5 ft. 11 in. and 160 lbs. He bats and throws with his right, and posed as right fielder. After being signed in the team in 1991, Ramirez made his professional debut on September 19, 1998. After his two years in the Indians, Ramirez was traded along with Enrique Wilson for Wil Cordero of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ramirez’s final game in major leagues was on September 27, 2000. After which in November 1, 2000 he was purchased from the Pittsburgh Pirates by the Yakult Swallows, a professional baseball team in Japan's Central League, where he played from 2001 to 2007 as a cleanup hitter. Ramirez holds the Central League record for most base hits in a single season set in 2007. Due to contract issues, before the 2008 season, Ramirez decided to sign a contract with the Yomiuri Giants. At the conclusion of the 2008 season, Ramirez won the MVP Award in the Central League to become the third Venezuelan player to be honored with the title in Japanese Baseball, joining Roberto Petagine and Alex Cabrera.
