The love of baseball certainly ran in Alex Gordon’s family. This passion that he shared with the rest of his family members may have been what motivated him to become a professional baseball player. Gordon was born in Lincoln, Nebraska and attended Lincoln Southeast High School. Gordon was able to come up with a .483 hitting average that earned for him the Gatorade Nebraska Player of the Year Award.
In 2004, Gordon was selected to be part of the U.S. National Team and was a first baseman for the team. He was able to come up with a .388 hitting average and hit four homers. During the FISU World University Baseball Championships, Gordon was named as the top offensive player.
Gordon attended the University of Nebraska and was able to earn a number of accolades especially during his third year of playing basketball. He was named as the ABCA Rawlings Player of the Year and received the Dick Howser Trophy, Golden Spikes Award and the Brooks Wallace Award. Gordon was named to the first team of the All-American twice.
During the 1995 MLB Draft, Gordon was the first overall pick by the Kansas City Royals. He made his MLB debut in 2007 after spending some time in the minors.
