Ales Hemsky is a professional ice hockey player for the National Hockey League and was born in Pardubice, Czechoslovakia. Presently, Hemsky is playing for the Edmonton Oilers, and is the team’s forward as well as alternate captain. Hemsky started his professional hockey career at a rather young age, playing for the HC Moeller Pardubice in the Czech Extraliga at the age of sixteen.
Hemsky became part of the CHL Import Draft of 2000 and was drafted by the Hull Olympiques. Hemsky had to leave Czechoslovakia for North America in order for him to play for the Olympiques in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. After being a front runner in the league with 100 point and a total of 36 goals, Hemsky was named into the All-Rookie team as well as the CHL Top Prospects League in the 2001 season. By the end of that season, Hemsky was named as the recipient of the Mike Bossy Trophy.
In 2001, Hemsky was able to join the NHL Entry Draft and was picked by the Edmonoton Oilers during the first round. Hemsky helped the Oilers get to the 2002, 2004 and 2005 playoffs. He also played for his country during the 2008 Men’s World Inline Hockey Championships.
