A major league baseball pitcher, Alay Soler was born on October 9, 1979 in Pinar del Rio, Cuba. It is also the place where he attended high school specifically at the Espa Armani Arenado and played baseball for about four years. This energetic player of the New York Mets had graduated from Nancy Uranga University with physical education degree.
He had also played for his country in the World University Games in 1998 and 2002 in Italy. In 1996, he was involved in the World Youth Games where he became the teammate of Jose Contreras in the Cuban National Series. He had then become a member of the Cuban National Team. In the Dominican Winter Baseball League in 2004, he pitched for Leones del Escogido and recorded 0-2 and a 5.28 ERA in five games. He had also recorded 10 strikeouts in the game with the Estrellas Orientales. Soler also averaged a total of 13.5 strikeouts in every nine innings pitched.
Soler signed a three-year major league contract worth $2.8 million with the New York Mets in September 2004. But then he was not able to get a visa for entry in United States but not until November 2005. He started his career with the class A St. Lucie Mets in April 2006 and he was fortunately promoted to the AA Binghamton Mets in May 2006. He made his major league debut as a starter on May 2006 at Shea Stadium.
