Alan Ashby (full name: Alan Dean Ashby; no nicknames) played catcher from 1973 until 1989 for the Cleveland Indians, Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros. He played for the Indians from 1973 - 1976, Jays from 1977 - 1978 and Astros from 1979 - 1989. Over 17 seasons, he played 1370 games, hit 90 home runs, drove in 397 runs, and stole 7 bases. Born on July 8, 1951 in Long Beach, CA, Ashby stands 6' 2" and weighs 185 lb. He attended San Pedro (San Pedro, CA) high school and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 3rd round of the 1969 amateur draft. His debut was on July 3, 1973 and he played his final game on May 9, 1989. Over his career, Ashby made $3,275,001. Common misspellings of his name include Alan Alan allan allen Dean Ashby.
