Al Benton (full name: John Alton Benton; no nicknames) played pitcher from 1934 until 1952 for the Philadelphia Athletics, Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox. He played for the Athletics from 1934 - 1935, Tigers from 1938 - 1948, Indians from 1949 - 1950 and Red Sox in 1952. Over 14 seasons, he started 167 games, won 98 games, struck out 697 batters, and had a 3.66 ERA. Born on March 18, 1911 in Noble, OK (All Transactions), Benton stood 6' 4" and weighed 215 lb. He attended high school. His debut was on April 18, 1934 and he played his final game on September 21, 1952.
