Akinori Iwamura is a professional baseball player who played in his home country Japan and likewise in the Major League Baseball. Born on February 9, 1979, he was often called “Aki” and sometimes “Gan-chan”. Before making his way to the Major League Baseball, he appeared in the Japanese Central League. There, he played for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows and served as a third baseman. He was also referred to as the “Japanese Lightning” after he represented the team Japan in the World Baseball Classic in 2006.
He spent the 1998 to 2006 seasons of his professional career in the Central League. He bagged a total of six Golden Glove recognitions and scored 106 home runs in hid final three years in the league. He was also named as the Japan Series Valuable Player in 2001.
