Born on May 8, 1982 in San Diego, California, Adrian Gonzalez is a professional baseball player of the Major Baseball League. A Mexican-American baseman, he likewise played for his parents’ country, Mexico, in the World Baseball Classic in 2006 and 2009. In the 2000 Major League Baseball Draft, he was selected by the Florida Marlins as a first overall. Unfortunately, Gonzalez obtained a wrist injury and the team feared that it may affect the way he swing the bat. They traded him to the team Texas Rangers where Gonzalez played for 59 games, 16 in 2004 and 43 in 2005. He was then traded again, this time, to San Diego Padres where he showed continuous improvement in terms of hitting and defense.
Gonzalez was awarded as NL Player of the Week on July 23, 2006 and became the team’s leader in batting average and home runs with .304 and 24. He did the same in 2007 when he made 30 home runs and 100 RBIs. In 2008, he became a reserve for the 2008 MLB All-Star Game and bagged his very first Gold Glove Award. Voted by his fellow players, coaches and MLB teams’ managers, he joined the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. He also became part of the 2009 Homerun Derby. In 2010, he added two grand slams in his record when he made a grand slam on June 2, 2010 against their opponent New York Mets.
