About Aaron Ward Memorabilia & Collectibles
Aaron Ward hails from Windsor, Ontario and was born on January 17, 1973. He currently plays as a defense man for the Anaheim Ducks of the national Hockey League. He weighs 209 pounds and stand 6 feet 2 inches in height.
Before his professional career, Ward played for Nepean Raiders of the Central Junior A Hockey League. Then, he accepted a scholarship in the University of Michigan and was then drafted 5th overall in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft by the Winnipeg Jets after a season with Michigan. Before he finished his days at Michigan though, he was exchanged to the Detroit Red Wings where he signed in 1993. His NHL debut was in the season of 1993- 94 where he stayed with Detroit’s affiliate, Adirondack Red Wings. However, he became a regular NHL player in 1996 despite scoring the first goal in a game at the Arrowhead Pond in October 1993.
Ward has 3 Stanley Cup titles to his name, being part of the Detroit Red Wings champion of the 1997 and 1998 season, and the California Hurricanes in 2006. One of his notable feats is scoring the first goal in the 2006 Stanley Cup. When he became free agent after the 2006 season, he signed with the New York Rangers together with team mate Matt Cullen. He had issues with the Rangers’ captain and he was soon traded to the Boston Bruins where he proved himself valuable in defense together with Zdeno Chara. By 2009, he was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes where he had difficulty adjusting. He was then given to the Anaheim Ducks by 2010.
His personal life outside the hockey rink is worth mentioning because of one of his projects, the Cuts for Cause. He and team mates from the Boston bruins shaved their heads to raise funds for the Mass General hospital for Children. They were able to collect a fair amount and the first event was followed by another in April 2009 where more players participated and a couple of celebrities.
