We've always known Red Sox fans to be supporters but will someone really pay for the World Series MVP's most personal gamer?
It was the athletic supporter that helped launch a new World Series championship for Boston. Mike Lowell wore it. No longer needed it. Discarded it. Someone affiliated with the team picked it up and it wound up in the hands of a sports memorabilia dealer. The "game used" piece of equipment went up on eBay last week, where it was pulled for being "adult oriented".
Not long ago, SportsWorld in Saugus, Massachusetts sold Jason Varitek's spandex underwear for $255. Apparently that wasn't quite as offensive as the rather personal bit of Lowell memorabilia. Undaunted, SportsWorld owner Phil Castinetti will now attempt to find a buyer in his store. If someone will buy Ty Cobb's dentures.....
“People collect stuff that’s different,” Castinetti told the Boston Herald. “They’re tired of baseball cards. And they seem to like the game-worn stuff. It’s nuts, it really is.”
