Rare Autographs Among Football Memorabilia

A SELECTION of rare football memorabilia has been unearthed by the Clitheroe branch of Age Concern.

The Moor Lane shop, which helps raise money for the elderly, has generously been donated several items which will be of great interest to fans young and old.

And the hope is to raise as much money for the charity as possible, by selling such pieces as a complete set of autographs from Burnley's 1947 FA Cup Final side, with the 60th anniversary of the 1-0 defeat at Wembley to Charlton Athletic just a fortnight ago.

Along with more Clarets memories, there are items of interest for Blackburn Rovers fans as well, a framed selection of archive photographs of England's 1966 World Cup success, books on George Best and old football magazines from the 1960s, and a number of match programmes from at home and abroad.

Some of the items are to be put on display in the shop window, and shop manager Sheila Garside said: "Word has got around, and there have been a lot of people asking about several of the items, including the 1947 Burnley autographs, and a lot of collectors have been into the shop.

"The items are for sale, and we hope to promote Age Concern and raise money for the charity.
"A lot of people don't know that the money we make here stays in Lancashire, and it is all for a very worthy cause. We rely purely on donations, and we are very grateful for all we receive."
