It hosted Super Bowl games. The undefeated 1972 Miami Dolphins. Memorable bowl games and the great Miami Hurricanes teams of years past. The Orange Bowl has plenty of history and now it's being sold piece-by-piece.
On Feb. 9 beginning at 11 a.m EST., Mounted Memories will host a public auction to liquidate over 300 items from the Orange Bowl. Virtually everything is up for sale, including signs, lockers, benches, framed Athletic Club photos, programs, old murals, vintage Dolphins goal post pads and even the scoreboard. Some items have been autographed by Miami sports greats like Dan Marino and Don Shula. It's the latest in a series of doomed stadium sales, the latest of which was the one held in Tiger Stadium last year.
Sports Collectors Daily has a live link to the auction where items can be viewed and absentee bids entered.
“We encourage anyone who wants a piece of the Orange Bowl Stadium to bid on some of the most prized elements of this historic place,” said Ross Tannenbaum, president of Dreams, Inc., parent company of Mounted Memories which is handling the asset recovery process at the stadium. “We have already received significant interest from individuals and businesses and we look forward to a large turnout.”
The auction will begin at 11 a.m. and last until 5 p.m. on Saturday and, depending on the availability and quantity of the remaining items, additional auction hours are scheduled for Sunday from 12 noon until 5 p.m.
