Lelands.com will offer a game worn Lou Gehrig cap during the company's May auction.
The cap has a hard brim and vintage small NY logo on the front. It's use has been attributed to Gehrig's use during streak of 2,130 consecutive games played.
"You don’t need me to tell you that game worn Gehrig items are extremely hard to come by and we are proud to offer this relic from one of the all time Yankee greats to our customers,” said Lelands chairman Josh Evans.
The 7 1/8” A.G. Spalding & Bros. Made in U.S.A. hat has a leather band which is embroidered “7 1/8 L. Gehrig”.
Lelands says the cap's consignor procured it from another very well known major auction house ten years ago and has had it in his possession ever since
The Lelands May catalog auction will also feature hundreds of lots of memorabilia from all sports and is expected to fetch millions of dollars in bids. Among the other high profile items to be featured is the last hockey stick game used by Bobby Orr as a member of the Boston Bruins, Jim Thorpe’s Track & Field Hall of Fame ring, and an Eddie Plank hand written letter to his son.
The items be accessible online at Lelands.com starting in the third week of April with the auction scheduled to close May 16.
