Fans Line Up for Sox Fest Sale, Autographs

Long before auction catalogs and Operation Bullpen, the Chicago White Sox were in the memorabilia business.

Game-used bats and equipment. Game-worn jerseys. Old programs. If the Sox weren't using it, you could often find it for sale. They were pioneers in some respects and nothing has changed on the south side. The team's annual Sox Fest celebration was held this weekend, with items available for sale.

The big attraction, though, were the autograph guests, which brought out a few stories from the attendees--collectors and those who think it's all a little goofy. Chicago Tribune columnist Melissa Isaacson was taking it all in.
