Cutler fever burns up cash registers
Anyone wanting a Jay Cutler jersey to wear for the rookie quarterback's debut Sunday night when the Broncos host the Seattle Seahawks better hurry up.
No. 6 is becoming No. 1.
"They're flying off the shelves," Broncos retail operations manager Tim Kellond said Wednesday from the team's store at Invesco Field at Mile High.
Fans and Christmas shoppers have flooded the store in search of Cutler memorabilia. Kellond said Wednesday that nearly every color of the authentic jerseys featuring Cutler's No. 6 has been sold out, and sales of the replica jerseys aren't far behind. New shipments are on the way.
"I didn't know what to expect because I've never experienced anything like this before," Kellond said. "It is very unusual for one player's jersey to get this hot this late in the season."
Meanwhile, the No. 16 jersey of the former starting quarterback, Jake Plummer, is plentiful.
"They've definitely slowed down," Kellond said.
