WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Memorabilia from the "Rocky" films will be donated to the Smithsonian in Washington as symbols of America's fighting spirit to succeed against the odds.
The Los Angeles Daily News reported Saturday that Sylvester Stallone, who played the Philadelphia scrapper, Rocky Balboa, will be on hand Tuesday at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum when items such as his signature hat and boxing gloves are turned over for the world to view. The "Italian Stallion" robe Rocky wore before his famous fight with Apollo Creed in the original movie will be on display. Smithsonian Curator Dwight Bowers told the Daily News: "We really want to reflect Rocky as a boxer. That's a genre of film that's very important to American filmmaking. It's a metaphor of fighting to succeed ... and remaking yourself. America is all about remaking oneself." The items will all come from Stallone's personal collection and are reported to be in very good condition. Stallone has another sequel, "Rocky Balboa," opening Dec. 20.
