Brees, Defense Super As Saints Defeat Colts 31-17

February 8, 2010 on 2:19 pm | In Memorabilia, Football |

Despite the fan excitement, turnout and the demand for Super Bowl memorabilia, the Big Game often leaves a lot to be desired when the clock strikes zero. After nearly a decade of blowouts and unappealing story lines, I don’t think there’s a fan or NFL merchandise collector who can be disappointed with the last three championship games. Following in the footsteps of the Giants’ dismantling of the then 18-0 Patriots and the Steelers’ dramatic last-minute drive to win Super Bowl XLIII, Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints etched their names in the record books last night with a thrilling come from behind victory over the heavily-favored Indianapolis Colts.

Trailing by 10 after the first quarter, the Saints defense would then hold Peyton Manning & Co. to only seven points for the next 45 minutes while Drew Brees operated at near perfection, blazing the way for a 31-17 victory and unimaginable jubilation in New Orleans. Fans draped in Saints merchandise stormed legendary Bourbon Street to celebrate their team’s first Super Bowl victory in their 43-year existence.
