NFL To Use Specially-Inked Footballs In Sunday’s Super Bowl

February 4, 2010 on 7:20 pm | In Memorabilia, Football |

A note for anyone planning to add game used NFL footballs to their Super Bowl XLIV memorabilia collection: each and every one of the over 100 balls issued for Sunday’s big game will be coated with an invisible ink for the sole purpose of identifying authenticity on the sports memorabilia market. Along with the ink, one that can only be spotted under a specialized laser, each ball will be individually numbered.

The NFL has raised millions of dollars for various charities in recent years through auctioning the footballs to the general public.

Super Bowl XLIV kicks off this Sunday night at 6:25 at Miami’s Sun Life Stadium.
