National Signing Day, Super Bowl & more

February 3, 2010 on 3:07 pm | In Memorabilia, NCAA, NASCAR, Football |

It’s National Signing Day, and while many fans and college football memorabilia collectors are waiting to see which NCAA jerseys some of the top high school recruits will throw on this fall, there’s plenty of news from around the sports globe.

Super Bowl buzz is hot in sunny Miami as the Colts and Saints prepare for Sunday’s big game. In what figures to be a showcase of the NFL’s top two offenses, most of the buzz of yesterday’s media day circled around Colts’ defensive end Dwight Freeney and his injured ankle. The 29-year old is believed to have a torn ligament in his right ankle, keeping his status for Sunday’s Super Bowl up in the air. The superstar pass rusher has 13.5 sacks on the season.

Fans not hunting down Super Bowl XLIV merchandise in South Florida are likely getting ready for two great arts of sport: the Olympics and the Daytona 500. With just over nine days remaining until the start of the 2010 Winter Games, anticipation is growing to see how much gold Americans Bode Miller, Shaun White and Rachael Flatt can bring back from Vancouver. Meanwhile, about 3,400 miles away in Florida, 43 of the world’s greatest stock car drivers will take to the sun-drenched banked corners of Daytona International Speedway for the 52nd running of the Great American Race. Fans and anyone who’s collected his NASCAR merchandise are anxious to see if Jimmie Johnson can take home an unprecedented fifth consecutive series title.
