World Prepares For Super Bowl, Media Day Today

February 2, 2010 on 11:37 am | In Memorabilia, Basketball, Football |

While many sports autograph investors are hunting down Super Bowl XLIV memorabilia in the days before the big game, here are some other headlines from around the sports world.

The debate of if he’s the best Laker of all-time can officially begin. Kobe Bryant scored 44 points in last night’s loss to the Grizzlies, passing the great Jerry West as the franchise’s all-time scoring leader. West, whose likeness appears on almost all NBA merchandise, had held the record (25,192 points) since retiring in 1974.

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez will undergo offseason knee surgery to stabilize the quarterback’s left patella ligament. The 22-year old Sanchez wore a knee brace for nearly his entire rookie season, one that ended just over a week ago when the Colts defeated Sanchez’s Jets 30-17 in the AFC Championship Game.

Saints fans and Colts memorabilia collectors will likely be tuning in to ESPN to watch coverage of today’s Super Bowl media day. The event often offers a little bit of zaniness and a handful of useful sound bites.
