Mets’ Santana Throws Off Mound For First Time Since Surgery
January 26, 2010 on 11:18 pm | In Memorabilia, Baseball |Fans and Mets memorabilia collectors can finally exhale, it looks like Johan Santana will be ready to go come Spring Training. The 30-year ace threw off a mound today at the team’s practice facility in Port St. Lucie, Florida to test his surgerically-repaired elbow for the first time in 2010. The two-time Cy Young award winner had his ‘09 campaign cut short due to bone chips in his right elbow and before today, hadn’t thrown off a mound since August 20th of last season. He reportedly threw 24 pitches with no discomfort.

Despite a lackluster 13-9 campaign in 2009, Johan Santana autographs were still amongst the highest selling for fans and MLB merchandise collectors. The future Hall of Famer will likely get the ball Monday April 5th when the Mets host the Florida Marlins on Opening Day.
