In the foreword of Larry Bird's autobiography, rival and friend Magic Johnson wrote, "Of all the people I play against, the only one I truly fear is Larry Bird." Johnson served as a driving force through Bird's Hall of Fame NBA career. Known as one of the game's all-time greatest players, Bird led the Boston Celtics to three NBA Championships during the 1980s. Bird's most famous, intense rivalry emerged with close friend Magic Johnson in the 1979 NCAA Championship Game. Johnson led his Michigan State Spartans past Bird's Indiana State Sycamores.
