Jimmie Johnson Memorabilia Buying Guide

By Sean J. O'Rourke

The protégé of four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson has stepped out of his shadow by becoming the most accomplished young driver in NASCAR today.  Born and raised in the small town of El Cajon, Ca., Johnson began racing small motorcycles at the tender age of five before eventually fighting his way to NASCAR’s Busch Series in 2000. After his Busch team had lost their sponsorship and was on the verge of folding, Johnson asked the superstar Gordon for advice during a drivers’ meeting in 2000. The conversation and friendship forged with Gordon proved professionally successful for Johnson as Hendrick Motorsports would go on to offer Jimmie a developmental driver’s contract later that year. Johnson would begin driving full-time in what is now the Sprint Cup Series in 2002 having one of the greatest rookie years in racing history. Johnson started his rookie season by winning the pole at the season-opening Daytona 500 before winning three races later that season. His year-end points’ finish (fifth) is the highest for any NASCAR modern-era rookie. Johnson would emerge as one of the series’ top competitors but would fall just short of a Sprint Cup Championship in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Despite his previous “shortcomings”, Johnson’s 2006 season shattered the racing record books and propelled Johnson to worldwide fame and notoriety. Jimmie would open the season by winning  the 2006 Daytona 500, the sport’s biggest race before seizing another racing gem by winning the Allstate 400 at the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway later that summer. When all was said and done Johnson racked up five victories and finally added that elusive Sprint Cup Championship to his trophy case. IN 2007, Johnson forever solidified his place as one of racing’s brightest stars when he won an astonishing 10 races on his way to repeating as Sprint Cup Series Champion. Such dominance in NASCAR hasn’t been seen since Johnson’s mentor and teammate Jeff Gordon went on similar torrid paces in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Leaving his mark on racing, Jimmie Johnson is on pace to be remembered as one of NASCAR’s all-time greatest drivers.

A young man with a lot of trophies already under his belt and a bright future ahead of him, Jimmie Johnson is one of NASCAR’s brightest stars and one of sports’ most recognizable figures. Destined to be mentioned along with the greats of the sport such as Petty, Gordon and Earnhardt, Johnson has only started building a Hall of Fame resume. If you’re interested in adding to your motorsports collection and are looking for those perfect items, look no further.
