Albert Pujols Memorabilia Buying Guide

Albert Pujols MemorabiliaBy Sean J. O'Rourke

St. Louis Cardinals' slugger Albert Pujols is the best young player in baseball today and is setting records with each season under his belt. The 28-year-old Pujols has been on a torrid pace since debuting with the Cardinals in 2001.  Going into the 2008 season, “Prince Albert” leads all of Major League Baseball in extra base hits (593) and total bases (2,514). This ascending superstar is the youngest player to hit 250 home runs and the first player in Major League Baseball history to hit 30 homeruns in each of his first seven seasons. Pujols is also the first player since the great Ted Williams to hit for 100 runs batted in in each of his first seven seasons. The Cardinals drafted Albert in the 13th round (402nd overall) in 1999 although Pujols decided to instead play one season in the Jayhawk League in Kansas instead. By the end of the summer of 1999, the Cardinals raised their bonus offered to Pujols from $10,000 to $70,000. Pujols accepted and quickly moved up through the developmental system of the Cardinals franchise, finally making his MLB debut in 2001.  Pujols reached elite superstar status in 2005 when he was named the National League's Most Valuable Player when he batted .330, hit 41 home runs and drove in 117 RBIs. The slugger turned it up coming into the early 2006 season when Pujols set a Major League Baseball record for home runs in a single month with 14 in April alone. Despite his first stint on the disabled list with an oblique strain, Pujols still delivered both at the plate and in the field. He went on to hit .331 with 49 home runs and 131 runs batted in, finishing second to Philadelphia's Ryan Howard in the National League MVP vote. Pujols did out-do Howard by winning both his first Gold Glove as well as his first World Championship in 2006 as the St. Louis Cardinals won their 10th World Series. Albert Pujols is perhaps the most feared hitter in all of baseball and is establishing a shoo-in Hall of Fame resume.
